Do I need a license to perform electrical or plumbing installations?

Solution The owner of a single-family owner-occupied dwelling may perform all electrical and plumbing work without a license within his or her own dwelling unit. All appropriate permits must be obtained and all work must be performed in compliance with the applicable codes. All work is required to be inspected by the Code Enforcement Office.

Only an appropriately licensed electrician or plumber may perform installations in multi-family dwellings, commercial and industrial properties and in any speculation or non-owner occupied residential construction.
