Lockbox Payment Processing: Technology Supporting Saco's Goal of Service Excellence
Just over a year ago, the City of Saco introduced a new service in Finance: Lockbox Payment Processing. We can confidently report it has been a resounding success.

In that time, over 16,300 payments have been processed using this automated system, which include approximately 13.5% of all tax payments for that period and over 52% of all sewer payments. That translates to about 800 person hours of labor saved on basic data entry that is utilized instead on higher level tasks here in our offices!

The many benefits of the process include saved time, as noted above; digital images of all checks received, should we need to research a payment; error free processing (the data must match an existing bill for a payment to be processed); and increased revenues from interest earned, which supplements the budget at no cost to Saco citizens.

We want to say thank you to those of you who have mailed a payment to the PO Box in Lewiston for lockbox processing instead of here to our offices. For those of you who have yet to take advantage of this service, please give it a try! The more of this kind of work we can shift out of our office, the better we can serve you when you do need to take care of business here at City Hall!

If you have any questions about this or any other service we offer, please call Stephanie at 282 1032.
