Update on Camp Ellis projects
Last fall two new hydraulic hoists were installed at the pier. These replaced two electrically operated existing hoists which were problematic and expensive to repair. These hoists feature a quicker and smoother operation and are capable of hydraulic swing in and out as well as up and down functions. The hoists are constructed of galvanized or stainless steel for low maintenance and long life. The hoists are ready for the upcoming fishing and lobster season and will be an improvement to the pier facilities.

The city recently accepted proposals for the design and installation of a pile system at the Camp Ellis Boat Ramp. These will be used to secure and support beached boats in an upright position for maintenance and repair activities. Local fishermen and boaters have wanted this type of system for several years. They have had to rely on a boat yard or actually beaching their boats in the sand anytime work was required below the waterline. This will provided a low tech but effective means of accessing the hull, propeller, keel, or other components. Maritime Construction and Engineering LLC of Cape Neddick, Maine is expected to perform the work. The start date for this project has not been determined at this time, it is expected that it will occur by late summer or early fall.

Funding for both projects is provided by a Small Harbors Improvement Grant from the Maine Department of Transportation and dedicated revenues from Camp Ellis Pier and Parking Lot activities.
