The Public Works Department has been working with Saco Spirit the Downtown business group to provide holiday decorations for Main Street and Pepperell Square.
Following the completion of the first phase of the Main Street Improvement Project, there was a desire to decorate the downtown area for the holiday season. A local business generously provided string lighting which was used to trim the new street lights. Since that time Saco Spirit's Design Committee has been working to find suitable decor for the street lights and other Main Street features.
Committee members including Chairperson Laurie Mooney, Johanna Hoffman, Peter Scontras, Sue Speers, and City Representative Mark Lorello have been looking at a number of different designs and features for the downtown. They have narrowed the choices to an illuminated snowflake design and garland for the poles.
The snowflake features durable construction and white LED lights for long life and low energy consumption. The committee intends to present the option to a larger group to finalize the selection.
Funding for the purchase of the decorations will come from the City budget. The Public Works Department will be responsible for putting up, taking down, and storage of the fixtures. The budget also includes two sets of seasonal banners to adorn the poles during the rest of the year.
