Saco Firefighter Retires After 35 Years of Service

Mayor Michaud presents Dana Ronco with his plaque for 35 years of service
After 35 years of service with the Saco Fire Department, Fire Fighter Dana Ronco retired on August 15th. Dana joined the department in August of 73 and began his career as a medic. During his career Dana operated all the Department Apparatus but is best known for his experience as an aerial ladder operator. Dana is one of a few personnel that operated all 3 modern aerial apparatus the city has owned. His first aerial was an open cab 48 LaFrance which offered no protection from the weather elements. In 1978 Dana moved to a new 100 ft Maxium which Dana operated at many of the notable large fires in Saco and surrounding communities. In 2003 Dana took control and finished his career operating the pride of the Saco fleet, a 107 ft Ferrara. Dana moved up through the ranks and was promoted to Captain in February 1985.

In September his family, friends and coworkers held a retirement banquet at the Holiday Inn Express facility that was attended by 200 guests. Dana was honored by Mayor Michaud for his service to the city. Dana's plans include spending more time with his wife Barbara, his children and his grandchildren. He will be missed by his friends at the Saco Fire Department and area departments.
